This month, we had the pleasure of getting to know Joe and Yvonne Bregmen from Devonport. Their story is a unique one: Joe is a devoted tripe eater, while Yvonne prefers other culinary delights.
Joe, a retired Naval Engineer, served in various locations across the Far East, the UK, the USA, and Australia. One of his fondest memories was his time in Panama and the Suez Canal, although he wished he had seen more ships during his stay. Throughout his career, Joe had the opportunity to meet fascinating people from all walks of life.
Yvonne, on the other hand, began her professional journey as a machinist and later took on the challenge of working for the post office. Adjusting to her new role, she found raising the flag to be one of the most demanding tasks.
Joe and Yvonne's paths crossed at a 21st celebration, and they immediately connected due to their shared love of travel. For 29 years, they took part in travel groups organized by the RSA, embarking on exciting trips to Australia. Among their many adventures, they cherish their time in Germany, cruising along the picturesque Rhine River. As hobbyists, they also enjoy metal detecting and frequently visit the Naval Museum cafe.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Joe and Yvonne for graciously sharing glimpses of their lives with us. "Spotlight on our Members" aims to celebrate the diverse and fascinating stories within our community, and we look forward to sharing more remarkable tales in the months to come.
